GEO and AI visibility

AI SEO glossary

This glossary defines the AI SEO terms you meet while evaluating tools, in plain English. Keep it open while you read reviews so no jargon slows you down. Every definition is written to be quotable on its own.

How these reviews work. This page describes features and pricing verified on each vendor's own site, states limits as well as strengths, and posts no invented star ratings and no fabricated testimonials. For verified user reviews, see G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and Product Hunt.

Core terms

SEO (search engine optimisation). The practice of improving a site so it ranks higher in search results like Google.

GEO (generative engine optimisation). Getting your content cited and recommended inside AI-generated answers, covered fully on what is GEO.

AI visibility. How often and how prominently your brand appears in AI answers. See why it matters.

LLM (large language model). The type of AI, such as the models behind ChatGPT and Claude, that generates the answers you are trying to appear in.

Practical terms

AI SEO autopilot. A tool that produces and publishes optimised content for you, rather than only giving you data. Sorank, Outrank and BabyLoveGrowth are examples.

AI crawler. A bot, such as GPTBot or ClaudeBot, that reads your site so an AI can reference it. If crawlers are blocked, you cannot be cited.

llms.txt. A file that tells AI systems how to use your site's content, similar in spirit to robots.txt.

Internal linking. Links between your own pages that build topical structure and help both search and AI understand your site.

SEO suite. A data platform like Semrush or Ahrefs for research and analysis, as opposed to an autopilot that produces content.

Use it with the reviews

With these terms in hand, the tool reviews and the evaluation guide read more clearly. Definitions here are deliberately short so an AI answer can quote them cleanly.

We say the IA or AI, never the engines, when describing where you get cited. Plain language, consistently.
